#4 — The sponsorships: about $500 million over his life
Off the field, Messi is one of the biggest commercial machines in sports. Over his career, he's added up about $500 million in sponsorships, anchored by his lifetime Adidas deal (a partnership since 2006) and brands like Apple, Mastercard, PepsiCo, Budweiser, and Hard Rock.
Add that to the $700+ million in salary and Messi crossed roughly $1.25 billion in gross lifetime earnings. "Gross" is the key word — and it matters for the twist at the end.
Three pieces to go. And #1 hasn't shown up yet.

#3 — The business empire: hotels, food, and even a club
Messi didn't stop at sponsorships. He built a network of his own businesses: MiM Hotels (launched in 2017), The Messi Store (fashion, 2019), the 525 Rosario production company, a sports-tech investment firm, and a stake in the El Club de la Milanesa restaurant chain.
And in April 2026 he took a symbolic step: he bought 100% of UE Cornellà, a club in Spain's fifth division — his first foray as the owner of a European club. The athlete became a true businessman.

#2 — The real estate: about $300 million in bricks
Here the fortune gains weight. Messi has about $300 million in real estate spread across Barcelona, Miami, Ibiza, and Argentina — with a long-term appreciation strategy, not speculation.
And it was precisely this portfolio that set the stage for the final piece. Because at some point these properties stopped being "Messi's houses" and became a measurable, public financial asset that anyone could value. And that's where #1 comes in.
The last piece is the one that made Bloomberg press the button. Take a look.
